Fluff from the naval of my mind

Got to love my parents. I called them to explain that I had a confirmed contract offer and they said, “you sound happy about it”. I had prepared to spend two to six months actively looking for a new contract and found this one inside a week. What where they expecting? That I would be upset at having found work, and so soon?

I mean, sure I prefer working for myself and on my own but being realistic I need to prop up my finances while this new stuff starts to pay off and the only practical way to do this is by working a contract. (Actually I suppose I could work part-time in a burger joint or worse take a permanent job. But the first does not pay well and the second is anathema to me.)

It’s going to take a few days to get back in the swing of working with other people again and a few weeks before living out of a suitcase seems normal — I shall miss my library! I will also miss my three monitor setup and my glorious 30″ Cinema HD monitor as I doubt new client will have such things available

This may be a good thing to help break my TV habit (although this week I’ve watched only three or four hours of TV) and it also means less wine (I abstain when living away from home, although I do indulge in an occasional evening pint at a local hostelry). On the downside, while living in hotels (usually the first week or two of  a contract until I find a suitable room to rent) my diet tends to run to pub food and burgers, neither of which are renowned for their health giving properties.

All-in-all 2010 is off to a reasonable start on the ‘earning a crust to keep the wolves at bay’ front.
